Bill was born on November 25, 1948, in Warren, OH, to Margaret and Richard Carlisle. Bill lived in Ohio until 1978, when he moved to Texas.
Bill met Sandie the same year, and they have never been apart since. He was not born in Texas; however, Texas became his home, which he would never leave. He and Sandie had 5 children between the two of them. Bill had two sons, and Sandie had two daughters and a son. They made a wonderful family lifestyle for everyone. Bill was a man devoted to his family and God.
Bill worked for US Steel from 1962 in Ohio until he transferred to Texas and retired after the mill shut down in 1979. Bill then went to Lee College to further his education and was hired on with Exxon Mobil in Baytown, Texas, where he retired after 25 years. Bill worked in the Water Utilities Dept and as a PDS Safety Coordinator while at Exxon Mobil. He made many lifelong friends throughout the years. Bill was an avid blood donor; he never missed an opportunity to give blood.
In his early years in Texas, Bill and Sandie bought a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which they loved to ride all over the US. This motorcycle has been handed down to his wonderful grandson-in-law, Chazz. Bill wanted his American Motorcycle Pride to live on. He knew Chazz would love and cherish it as much as he did.
Bill loved his first daughter, Jamie Lane, more than anything. Being a father to a daughter sure was different than the boys he was used to. He loved all his children, but Jamie and Bill had that father-daughter bond that no one could break. Their love was unconditional.
Bill’s son Robert joined the US Army, the pride he had in Robert for serving his country is more than words could ever describe.
In 1993, Bill became a Grandfather to a beautiful baby girl, Shelbi D. She was the most amazing thing to him. For 5 years, it was Bill and Shelbi vs the World; nothing else mattered. Bill wanted to teach her about everything and explore the world. He was the most loving and devoted grandfather anyone could ever ask for. Through the years, he became a grandfather to 4 girls and 7 boys. Shelbi, Katelyn, Hillary, Brooklyn, Brandon, Hunter, Tobey Jr, Ethan, Gage, Lief, and Ian. Bill was very devoted and took pride in volunteering at school activities, extracurricular activities, and anything the kids were involved in; he made sure to participate if possible. Bill focused on education and took them to the Library to start them learning and reading at a very early age.
Bill volunteered as a Cub Scout leader for his grandson Hunter. The two went on camping trips, outings, learning / earing badges. He made sure Hunter not only earned the badges, but Hunter also knew why he was getting them. The two would build race cars to enter the box car races every year, even winning trophies for their work.
As his grandchildren grew up, soon came the great-grandchildren. And boy oh boy, did he love them Great Grand kiddos, they were his pride and joys for sure. Kinzley, Zaylee, and Gavin all loved their Papaw and thought he hung the moon.
In his spare time, Bill loved to put in a garden every year. He knew Sandie loved tomatoes, so that was his main focus. He loved making her happy by bringing in basket after basket every day, full of beautiful tomatoes. He grew other stuff, but the tomatoes had a special meaning for sure. Yes, Sandie would have to give tomatoes away to everyone who would take them, too many for her to eat for sure.
After retirement, Bill took a seminary class so he could help preach the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bill would preach to all who would listen, and he would go to the Baytown jail weekly to preach and help anyone who needed it. Bill and Sandie would drive a bus on Sundays to pick up Seniors from local nursing homes to take them to church. He wanted anyone who wanted to go to church to have a way.
Bill was an amazing Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all.
