

William Burr Walter, 57, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital. He was born in Amarillo, Texas, on Sept. 12, 1957, to Clyde Carlos Walter and Mary Ann( Walter) Bengtson .
Known as Bill to family, friends and co-workers, he graduated from Westlake High School in Austin, and later completed an Associates Degree in Systems Management at San Jacinto College in Houston.
For several years, he worked in the production of microchips and the building of computer boards for Texas Instruments in Austin and Advanced Micro Devices in San Antonio, where he received awards for increasing production through team building efforts.
Years later, he followed his skill in building and construction to opening his own home renovation company, Call Bill, and provided services in Houston and Baytown, including the Northshore Animal Hospital of Dr. Frank Martin where he became an honorary member of the veterinary staff.
In Houston, he was an active member of HADCAP, the Haden Road Community Advisory Panel to area petrochemical industries. Following the closing of HADCAP, he became an active member of SEACAP and continued his work on safety in the petrochemical community and protection of the environment.
In Baytown, he was a member of the Baytown Special Rodeo Association and an active member of the Stick Horse Committee, using his wood working skills to cut out and finish hundreds of horseheads to be made into stick horses for the annual event for special needs youngsters. In addition, he added his photographic skills to the effort to provide a photo history of Baytown Special Rodeo each year.
He also provided free lance photography for The Baytown Sun and, his photo of President Jimmy Carter at the build out of 100 Habitat Homes in Houston, a photo which graced the cover of Petrochem Magazine.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Carlos Walter, and his grandparents, the late Clyde and Isabella Walter of Longmont, Colorado, and James and Ina Tongate of Waco. He is the great-grandson of the late Willis and Annie Tongate of Brownwood, TX.
He is survived by his mother, M.A. Bengtson of Houston, his stepmom, Jean Stovall Walter, Austin; Aunt, Madelyn Mills Neel (Coney), Hale Center, TX.; cousins, Greg Mills (Penny), Marble Falls, TX; Jim Mills (Ranae), Stonewall, TX; Kelsey Mills, Richmond, TX; Leah Mills, Bastrop, TX; Sherah Mills, Lubbock, TX and numerous cousins and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook, Baytown, Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, with visitation at 1 p.m.
with services in the Navarre Chapel at 2 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Martinez, Adam Torres, Dr. Frank Martin, J.R. Miller, Charlie Tallant, and Carl Pitts.
Graveside services and burial will be in the Salt Creek Baptist Cemetery, in Brownwood, on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014.
