A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Friday February 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor John Crowe at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont.
Ms. Pennington was born on August 22, 1926 in Little Springs, Mississippi but resided in the North End area of Beaumont for nearly seventy years. As a young adult she worked for the telephone company in Natchez, Mississippi as a telephone operator for several years. After her marriage to Martis Edward Pennington in August 1947 and subsequent move to Texas in 1950, she devoted herself to being a homemaker and cherished her role as mother to her only son, Larry. After her son’s graduation, she once again joined the workforce primarily as a desk clerk in the hotel/motel hospitality industry in Beaumont. Throughout her work career, she also held office related positions and was a bookkeeper up until her retirement. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, and tending her potted flowers and plants. Ms. Pennington was for many years a member of North End Baptist Church and in her later years a member of Pine Burr Baptist Church. Due to declining health, Ms. Pennington spent the last several years of her life residing with her son in Simonton, Texas just west of Houston.
Ms. Pennington was preceded in death by her parents, David Rollins and Vincie Belle Riley Rollins; two brothers, Arthur and Abner Rollins; a sister, Hilda Rae Rollins Gill; and ex-husband Martis Edward Pennington. She is survived by her son; Larry Alan Pennington and wife Averine Griffis Pennington of Simonton, two grandchildren; Larissa Alandra Pennington Plunto of Richmond, TX, and Jacob Alan Pennington and wife Michaela Weeks Pennington, of Spring; two great grandchildren Adalie Hayden Plunto and Alandra Isabella Plunto, both of Richmond, TX.
