Charles Wilburn Briggs of Beaumont, TX, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 30, 2011. Charles was born on March 11, 1934, in Beaumont, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McAllister Briggs, and his parents, Wilburn Lawrence Briggs and Nelda Mary Briggs, all of Beaumont. He is survived by two sons, Eric D. Briggs of Katy, TX and Philip Briggs of Houston, TX and four grandsons who affectionately called him “Pawpaw”, Joshua Briggs, Ethan Briggs, Jacob Briggs and Luke Briggs. He is also survived by his brother Robert Briggs of Lumberton, sisters, Beverly Pounds and Gloria Merrill both of Austin, TX. Mr. Briggs was a proud American and served his country in the United States Army. Charles was employed by Mobil Oil refinery in Beaumont where he worked in the caustic unit and retired after over 3 decades of loyal service. Charles was a long time resident of South Park Beaumont and an avid baseball fan who loved the old Beaumont Exporters and Houston Astros but most of all he loved the New York Yankees and never missed a game. He also loved music, and woke up early every Saturday and Sunday morning so he wouldn’t miss his favorite Cajun music on the radio. He will be greatly missed by many. The Briggs family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Cynthia Zinner, Peggy Mayworm and Michelle McCreight of Grace Hospice for their amazing care and compassion. We would also like to give a special thanks to Kim Jones, Lexi Opara, Aleta Wood and Julie Brooks of Encore Caregivers. Mr. Briggs was so fortunate to have you in his life and help care for him and he was deeply fond of all of you.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX, at 11:00 a.m.
