Darrin Scott Dykes

1966-2017 Darrin Scott Dykes, 50 of Denton, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at Medical City Plano. He was born on December 14, 1966 in Freeport and had been a long-time resident of Nederland, Houston, and Denton. His parents are Peggy Whitley Cowart and the late Gerald Cowart. Darrin is survived by the love of his life, Elizabeth Simons Dykes, and wonderful, adoring, sons Steven Walter Dykes and Brian Whitley Dykes. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Cowart Henderson and sister-in-law Helga Cowart Briscoe, along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Bicy and Kelly Whitley and step-brother Steven Cowart. Darrin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lamar University, Beaumont, TX and a Master’s degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS. He was an avid sports and music fan, but will be most remembered for the passion he had for his wife and sons. The funeral will begin with visitation at 9:00 a.m., and the service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, at First Baptist Church, Nederland, TX. Interment will be immediately after the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, TX 77703. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Heart Association or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
