Dorothy Dean Savoy Benoit of Wimberley, TX went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2026. She was special to so many people in her 85 years, exemplifying a life full of love and adventure. She was born in Strong, Arkansas to Ferris and Mayme Dean on August 20, 1940. The Dean family moved to Nederland, Texas where she studied music from an early age. She delighted family and friends for many years with her gentle touch at the piano. She attended Nederland High School and Lamar University. At age 19, she married the love of her life, Virgil Savoy and had four boys together. Truly, her greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother which was marked by deep devotion and strength. Due to Virgil’s work in banking and real estate, the family moved often, all over Texas and as far as Mississippi, collecting many life-long friends and acquaintances. Dorothy was an excellent cook and enjoyed so much to prepare meals for the family, especially during holidays. She loved the beach and had a hobby of collecting rare seashells. She so loved her group of friends from high school, affectionately known as the Tulips.
Widowed, she later married Larry Benoit of China, Texas and they were married for 30 years. Inspired by their mutual love of good food, they opened Larry’s restaurant in China, TX. In later years they lived for a time on a ranch in Llano, Texas. For the last few years of her life Dorothy lived in Wimberley, Texas.
Dorothy had an openness and wisdom about her that endeared so many. She touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her and she will be greatly missed.
