Earl Winston Dorrell, 84, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Born in Troup, Texas to John Craigo Dorrell and Era Inez Day, he lived his childhood years in Smith County helping his Dad and older brothers farm cotton, peanuts, tomatoes and peaches. When World War II began, the family moved to Beaumont. Earl enlisted in the US Navy on his seventeenth birthday and served as a Seabee on several islands in the South Pacific. Earl returned to Beaumont after WW II, attended Lamar College and then worked at the Exxon Mobil refinery for 35 years retiring in 1986.
Earl was a passionate man who enjoyed life and had a strong faith. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, both the Westgate and Vidor churches. He had a loving spirit and enjoyed reading the bible, playing bridge and visiting family and friends.
Earl was extremely loving and proud of his children, step-children and grandchildren: son, Jeff Dorrell and partner Mike Centeno, son Perry Dorrell and wife Sue, son, James Dorrell and wife Pam, daughter Jean Ann Dorrell, step-children Mike Davis, Elizabeth Abbott and Laurie Davis; grandchildren Jessica Morgan and husband Josh, Ashley Hargrove, Chris Dorrell, Angie Abbott, Matt Abbott, Renee Whigham and husband Greg, Ryan Davis and Christopher Davis. He is also survived by two brothers, Troy Dorrell, and Dwain Dorrell and wife Raye, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Dorrell, his parents and three brothers, J.C., Ronnie and Donnie.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home at 4955 Pine St. in Beaumont. Interment will follow. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the funeral home.
