Edna Gene Seale
July 11, 1929 – August 31, 2017
Edna Gene, the eternal hummingbird, was born in Beaumont, Texas on July 11, 1929. She spent her childhood in Amelia and teenage years in South Park. Raised by her grandparents, as a child in the Depression, she valued reuse and was skilled at stretching resources. She became a wife and mother at a young age and exceled in creative compassion for her family. Edna Gene is survived by a large and loving family tree extending to many states. Edna worked with Beaumont Independent School District as an administrator for decades and continues to be remembered for her organization, attention to detail and diligence in problem solving. She was the epitome of a caregiver all of her days. As a dedicated volunteer through her church, countless hours were spent in the community serving seniors. Throughout her life she remained proud and passionate about the history of our city, particularly downtown. A vivid storyteller, Edna was happiest when recalling the good old days. She had a fierce love for family and spoiled all of us to the best of her abilities. Her generosity and southern hospitality never faltered. Her spirit was relentless. Edna had a huge romance with words. Surrounded by books, she was an avid reader and ruthless scrabble adversary, always graceful in her triumph with a cunning grin. Her wit and sarcasm were frequent and fortunately, inherited by the family. She loved to laugh and entertain, which often included costumes, dancing and obviously, tons of cooking. The hostess with the most-est excused herself from the party on August 31, 2017, right on cue- in the wake of a natural disaster. Eighty-eight years of hovering wings embrace us all today and always.
