Freida Leola Foster Fulmer, 95, of Beaumont, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Pelican Bay Assisted Living in Beaumont, surrounded by family. She was born on December 9, 1926 to Velma Faye Wheeler and Freddie Orval Foster in Flint, Michigan.
Her family soon moved from Flint to Bald Knob, Arkansas where she lived until she graduated high school. She moved to Little Rock to attend Beauty School and then went to work as a beautician. It was in this beauty shop that she met the love of her life, Lester L. Fulmer. He had just returned from fighting in WWII with the Flying Tigers in China. He would come to pick up his Aunt Atheline at the end of the day and Leola would always need something from the supply cabinet where he would stand. The rest is history. They were married on September 22, 1946. Soon after their marriage Lester nicknamed her Susie and that is the name she mainly went by her adult life. In 1947 they moved to Chicago, Illinois where Lester attended Coyne Electrical School. They returned to Arkansas to live until Lester asked her if she wanted to move to Texas and she did not hesitate to say yes. They moved to Pasadena, Texas where their 3 children were born. In 1959 the family moved to North Little Rock for a short time, but couldn’t get Texas out of their blood. The family moved to Beaumont in 1960 and lived there until 1977 when Lester and Susie moved to Vidor.
Susie chose to be a stay-at-home wife and being at home for her husband and children was her most important job and she excelled at it. Lester and Leola were married for almost 58 years. Their love for one another is a story for the ages. They adored each other and loved traveling, camping, fishing, time spent at the family beach cabin and camp at Toledo Bend, 4:00 coffee together on their porch swing, family dinners and holidays, family haircuts, sewing, walking, and oh how she loved her chocolate candy. Any occasion spent with family was always a memory to treasure.
Susie’s love for the Lord was evident to all who knew her. She epitomized letting the love of Jesus shine through her and she shared that love with every person she came in contact with. What a joy to know she is with her Lord and Savior now.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Darl and Eugene Foster; sister Irene Feagin; her husband Lester Fulmer, daughter Barbara Kelson, grandchildren John Michael and Susan Michelle Kelson.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-love Nancy and Dennis Eberhardt, son and daughter-in-love Steve and Pam Fulmer; grandchildren David Eberhardt, Shana Fulmer, Jimmy Fulmer, Angie Matthews and husband Lynn, Jason Eberhardt and wife Stacy, Justin Fulmer and wife Karen, Travis Kelson, Samantha Pair and husband Kyle, Ashley Spencer and husband Brad; 18 great-grandchildren, Dalton Vallery, Sheldon and Keely Strother, Darby Robichau, Preston and Macie Fulmer, Amy Bendo, Steven Matthews, Alexis, Ian and Bella Eberhardt, Blake, Dylan and Payton Fulmer, Kacen and Kylie Pair, Delaney and Noah Spencer; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Marleigh and Reid Robichau; sister-in-love Peggy Roach and husband Jesse; nieces, Linda Brimer, Patsy Pearrow and Lana Rudd.
