George Blackmon, 77 of Lumberton, Texas, went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2025. George was born December 12, 1947 to Maurice Lee Blackmon Sr. and Madge Blackmon in Beaumont. George’s brothers, Maurice and Walter, passed away in 2012 and 2024, respectively. He is survived by his Sister-in-Law, Marilyn, and his Nephew, Andrew, and Niece, Rose.
Early in life, George was a free spirit and had fond memories of hunting and fishing with his brothers and father and later surfing with friends off the west coast of Mexico and California. George attended Lamar College and earned his degree in Accounting. George had three careers, first as a plumber, then an accountant, and finally as a product quality technician working in a lab at Texaco, Shell, and Motiva refineries, from which he retired at the end of his career. George married twice, but did not have any children of his own. Outside of work, George was a passionate outdoorsman and enjoyed salt water fishing along the Louisiana and Texas shoreline. Some memorable trips included a guided off shore trip with his brother Maurice and nephew Andrew in Corpus Christi as well as countless outings in Sabine Lake and Galveston Bay in his favorite Boston Whaler boat. His favorite fish to catch were Flounder, but he also enjoyed Red Fish and Speckled Trout as well. Despite not having his own children, George was an enthusiastic, highly-engaged uncle to Andrew and Rose and made several trips to Colorado to visit. One of Andrew’s favorite memories of George from long ago was George teaching him how to ride a bike while George jogged along behind wearing his signature Texas cowboy boots and jeans.
George was a kindhearted man who deeply loved animals, especially dogs. At one point in his life, George had 11 or 12 dogs in his family. He loved his animals dearly and could never refuse to take in a stray or animal in need. George consistently served others and put their needs above his own. When his mother Madge’s memory severely degraded due to Alzheimer’s, George selflessly took care of her for many years, which allowed her to stay in her home as long as possible. George also provided financial support and care for his brother, friends, and relatives throughout his life. George was a member of the Church of Christ and had a deep faith in the Lord. George passed away after a many years long battle with cancer. His family and friends are glad that his pain and suffering are now over celebrating that he is now with the Lord.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 10AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont.
