

Jay was a lifelong resident of Beaumont, attended South Park High School and Lamar College. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a longtime employee of Texaco at their Port Neches location. He was a faithful member of Lamar Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Sterling; sons, Jerry Sterling of Port Arthur, Ricky Sterling and his wife, LaVern, who was loved as a daughter, of Orange; granddaughters, Morgan Sterling of Beaumont, Cristy Stegall of Kerrville, Misty Sullivan and her husband, Dwight of League City; great grandchildren, Chloe, Alexis, Veronica and Andrew Sullivan and Maddox Stegall; brothers, Harvey Sterling and wife, Sandra, Jimmy Sterling and his wife, Marilyn; sister, Faye Daws and husband, Jimmy.
The family expresses deep appreciation to Jay’s caregivers, Dora Robinson and Mary Jo Hufstetler and to the wonderful staff of Altus Hospice, especially to Wendy McElroy and Tiffany Rawls, Stephania, Andrea, and Hope. Also to the kind and caring attendants at Collier Park, thank you Helen, Viva, Jo, Jennifer, Lisa, and Kevin.
If any would wish to make a memorial offering the family would like it made to Many Waters Mission, #3 CR 6820 Waterflow, N.M. 87421. This is a missionary service to people of the Navaho Indian Reservation in N.M. and Arizona which Ricky and LaVern work with.
Visitation will take place Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services to be held Friday, December 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.
