He was born on February 5, 1959, in Beaumont, Texas, to the late Harold Lloyd Shockley and Frances Loraine (Bean) Shockley. John attended Forest Park High School and later studied at Lamar University. He went on to have a successful career, retiring from Exxon Mobil.
A man of many passions, John enjoyed rebuilding vintage motocross bikes, bowling, and attending rock concerts. In his youth, he raced motorbikes and earned numerous victories. In his later years, he also received several awards for his bowling achievements.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his half-sister, Glenda (Shockley) Robbins. John is survived by a son, Hayden Greer, along with numerous 2nd cousins and their children and grandchildren on both parent’s sides. There are far too many cousins to name without the risk of leaving someone out who was special to John.
John was a favorite to all his family and friends always showing his ear-to-ear beaming grin on his face when entering a room and he was also the "loudest booming voice" there too. He was generous to his friends and loved helping young families with his time and gifts. He also knew how to order anything online his friends might need to make their life easier and would have it delivered to their home.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Mr. Shockley’s family and friends is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 25, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to your favorite local charity or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Co-Pay Assistance Program, PO Box 12268, Newport News, Virginia 23612.
