Joy Jay Holbrook, 91, of Lumberton, died Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Christian Care Communities and Service facility in Allen, Texas. A native of Rock Island, Texas she was a longtime resident of Beaumont before moving to Lumberton seven years ago. Joy enjoyed the outdoors, the beach, swimming, traveling, gardening, fishing, puzzles, playing dominoes and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A loving wife of a career seaman/navy chief, Joy spent her early years raising two young girls while moving from base to base, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Joy had a heart of gold and was always willing to give a helping hand and a gracious word. She and Bob were familiar faces in the children's nursery at North End Baptist Church where they were long time members.
A Celebration Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont.
Joy was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert "Bob" Holbrook, daughter Joyce Cooper Holbrook, parents Claude C. and Marie Eaton Trapp, brothers Claude "Bo" Trapp and J. C. Trapp, and her sister Eunice Venghaus.
Joy is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Croley and her husband John of Plano, TX. grandchildren Keith Day and his wife Jana of Allen, TX., Crystal Gregg, and Paige Lewis both of San Antonio, and her great grandchildren, Keiten Day and Jarren Day both of Allen, Andrew Mulholland, Gabi Mulholland, and Aya Mulholland all of San Antonio.
The family would also like to give a special thank you to Sandy Boren of Lumberton, TX. and all the wonderful aides, nurses, and hospice staff who cared for Joy over the past six years.
Joy will be greatly missed, but not forgotten by all who knew and loved her.
