Martha Ree Williams

A Life of Determination, Education, and Service

As a determined young student at Hebert High School, Martha looked to the future with absolute clarity. Holding a specific dream of attending Lamar University in Beaumont, she set her mind to learning to play the clarinet, knowing it was her key to a college scholarship. With steady discipline and perseverance, she accomplished her goal, graduated with her degree in Education, and demonstrated the guiding principle of her life: when Martha set her mind on something worthwhile, she worked diligently until it was done.

Life soon called Martha to a bold new chapter. To join her husband, Willie Williams, who was serving in the United States Army, she boarded her very first airplane flight and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Germany. Embracing this unfamiliar world, she immediately put her calling as an educator to work, teaching elementary school and bringing her warmth and dedication to children in a country far from home.

Upon returning to the United States, Martha's passion for education only deepened. She returned to her alma mater, Lamar University, to earn her Master’s Degree in Education. To Martha, learning was never just a career path or preparation for a job; it was a lifelong responsibility, a continuous journey of growth, and the ultimate way to equip herself to lift others up.

For more than thirty years, Martha dedicated her professional life to the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD). She spent approximately twenty-two of those years in the Special Education Department, where she ultimately served as a compassionate and dedicated Educational Diagnostician. Her tireless work in this essential role is preserved in the historical Texas School Directory, which identifies her as a "Diagnostician, SP ED" by 1994–95.

In this position of immense responsibility, Martha stood at a critical intersection for children, families, and teachers. With deep knowledge, patience, and sound judgment, she carefully evaluated children's individual circumstances, ensuring those with unique needs had an advocate who truly believed in their possibilities and potential.

Martha’s greatest legacy is not measured by the degrees she earned or the titles she held, but by the countless lives she touched with her gentle compassion and steadfast spirit. From Hebert High School to Germany and back home to Beaumont, she walked through life with purposeful determination.

Her earthly work is now finished, but her influence remains. Her voice is quiet, but her lessons endure. Her journey has ended, but the legacy of her loving service continues to shine.

May Martha be remembered with gratitude, honored with love, and cherished always.

A Celebration of Martha's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont, with entombment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Virgilina Washington, Sr.

Martha is survived by her loving husband Willie Williams of Beaumont, sons, Reginald D. Williams of Dallas, and Derric T. Williams of Beaumont, brothers Thomas Washington, Jr. and his wife Lillian, Fahmee S. Al-Uqdah, and Donald Ray Washington and his wife Barbara J. all of Beaumont, sisters Fannie Mae Lemon and her husband Leon of Missouri City, TX., Anna Ruth Hall and her husband Clarence of Houston, Rebecca Jane Lemell of Beaumont, and Hilda Johnson and her husband Wilferd of Livingston, LA., two grandchildren, Meghan Ashleigh Williams, and Madison Arden Williams both of Houston, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha is also survived by her brother-in-law Erewin Williams and his wife Amy of Baytown, Freddie Williams and his wife Brenda of Sugarland, sister-in-law Revordia Williams of Beaumont, by favorite friends Dolores Williams of Beaumont, and Elton Gish of Lumberton,close friends Donald Booker, Ron Smith, Coach Dixon and his wife Ruby, and other relatives and friends.

Martha will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
