

Maxine was one of fourteen children born to Duncan Thomason Orton and Mollie Lou Jolly Orton who were married in Jasper, Texas on January 8, 1896.
Longevity runs in Maxine's family. Her father Duncan lived to the age of 92; her sister Blanche to 95 and her sisters Euleen and Gearldine both lived to be 85.
Maxine grew up in Jasper but spent many years in Beaumont with her late husband G.L. (Ken) Kendrick and their four children. Maxine and Ken had been married for 48 years when Ken died in 1987. Maxine was a devoted wife and a spectacular mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband G.L. (Ken) Kendrick, daughters Anna L.
Kooken and Gwen L. Tolar, son James D. Kendrick and infant granddaughter Amanda Jane Kendrick.
Maxine is survived by her son Tommy G. Kendrick and wife Jane and Daughter-in-law Jane A. Kendrick. She is also survived by seven grandsons Stephen and Scott Tolar, Ed and Bob Kendrick, Toma and Terry Dolliver, Austin Kendrick and one granddaughter, Tracy Lancaster and their spouses as well as many great and great-great grandchildren.
Maxine and Ken raised their children and grandchildren in a Christian home and Maxine's faith was always one of her strongest assets. Bible study was a primary passion. By the time of her death she had read the Bible cover to cover numerous times.
Maxine spent the last three years of her life at Park Bend Health Center in Austin,TX where she was well cared for by a staff who loved and appreciated her as a 'fine Christian lady.' Tommy and Jane were with her there daily. She was especially fond of Saturdays which became known as Terry Day when her grandson Terry came to visit. Throughout her life Maxine was an animal lover, an avid gardener and a superior cook. She loved to sew and was a talented quilter. Among Maxine's final words were "No one loved their family more than I do." Near the end, when asked if she needed anything she said "Coffee. In a cup."
Visitation at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday Oct. 10th 1pm. Service at 2pm. Burial following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
