Verna Rice Weishampel was born Oct. 2, 1918 in the small town of Jobabo, Cuba to Edward Edgar Rice and Illuminada Juanita Arevelo. The family immigrated to the United States when she was 12 years old. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur Roger Weishampel, her parents, her sisters Alice “Billie” Miller, Lucille Outler, and Elsie Williams, and grandson, Darrell Weishampel.
Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the funeral home.
Verna is survived by her daughter Dr. Carol V. Weishampel and her eleven children, and her son Alan E. Weishampel, his wife Patricia Weishampel, their three children, numerous grandchildren, great grand and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Elva Drennan, her husband Harry Drennan, and many nieces and nephews.
Verna was active in all phases of church work in West End Baptist Church where she had been a long-time member and member of the choir. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers, especially roses. She was a creative artist and accomplished in many crafts, especially embroidery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Verna Weishampel's honor to: Mission Ministries at West End Baptist Church in Beaumont and East Ridge Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Beaumont was Verna’s home since the early fifties. Although she and husband, Art, moved briefly to Center, Texas, and Missouri, she returned to Beaumont in the mid-1980s.
