Patricia Ann Archer, 97, passed away Wednesday October 18, 2023 at Oakridge assisted living where she resided for the past two and a half years. Born in Dawes, West Virginia, she came to Beaumont as a child when her father was transferred here by the Pure Oil Company. She grew up in the area around Beaumont High School before moving to the South Park area after marrying daddy, where they raised us three children until we were young adults. While in the South Park area she and daddy were active in St. Paul's Methodist Church where mama taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, and mission studies. At the encouragement of her mother in law, she enrolled in Lamar and finished a degree in education. She began teaching third grade at Pietzsch Elementary, where she eventually retired after many years of touching children's lives.
After retirement she and daddy moved to the west end of Beaumont and began a new chapter in their lives. This included a little traveling which she loved very much. She also joined the Women's Club of Beaumont and the Eastern Star, but her main focus in life was her family. With the addition of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren into her life, her flare for going over the top was born. She loved having big dinners and cooking for everybody, especially when celebrating the holidays with all the extras she could come up with. She spent many hours planning and shopping to create big holiday celebrations. You also never knew what Sunday dinner would be because she would usually cook something we wouldn't fix, like stuffed cornish hens! The other day I found a journal she kept where she would express how much she loved to cook and feed everybody. She also loved to play games! In later years she was a Yatzee champ, but she also taught her grandchildren how to play poker, and of course the marble game which Ashleys kids loved to play with her every time they came to visit. The family would like to especially thank Mama's new friends she made at Oakridge, Ms. Una's daughter Teresa and Michelle, for playing Yatzee with her every time they visited. They continued playing with her even when she couldn't play anymore. We know she loved your care and attention. We would also love to thank the staff of Oakridge for all the love, comfort, and great care they gave mama. We made a good choice going there.
Mama was preceded in death by our father, Roy Frank Archer, to whom she was married for over 50 years. We know she is glad to go where he is as she misses him so much. She is survived by her children Lynn Callas of Beaumont ,TX, Rodney Archer and wife Suzy of Beaumont, TX, and Gary Todd Archer and wife Denise of Spring, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica McAnelly and husband Jay of Spring Branch, TX, Ashley Highsmith and husband Titus of League City, TX, Josh Archer and Kaileigh Archer of Austin, TX, Jeffrey Archer and wife Cassie of Fairfield, California, Scott Archer and wife Jamie of Tomball, TX. She is also survived by her 9 great-grandchildren Ryann McAnelly, Jake McAnelly, Drew Archer, Michael Archer, Allie Archer, Eva Highsmith, Gavin Highsmith, Eden Opalka, and Bruce Opalka. Mama was blessed with a long and healthy life full of the things that were most important to her.
