Paul was born in Port Arthur, Texas to parents, Alta and Dallas LaGrappe, into a large family of all boys. After high school, "Calvin" started his long career at Texaco Refinery. After years of advancing his position at the plant, he retired with 42 years of service.
As a lifelong avid golfer, after retirement, he began playing at least 18 holes of golf up to five days a week. In fact, he showed up early to get a round in before his buddies even showed up! He always spoke fondly of the their trip to Pebble Beach, Florida to play.
When most retired seniors would figure out ways to relax and cut down on their activity, Calvin stayed physically active as a dedicated "gym rat" that faithfully worked out 5 or 6 times a week. He got a kick out of the much younger physical trainers that would come to introduce themselves after his lengthy cardio sessions and built many wonderful friendships along the way while there. Moreover, Calvin always took great pride in keeping his car shiny, and his lawn manicured, right up until just a couple of years ago!
Calvin is survived by his brother Jimmy LaGrappe (Gayla), and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving children, Dana Smith, Greg Smith (Charla), Mari Quilio (Mike), Michelle Singletary (Shane), Heidi Schneider (George), Scarlett Arias (Robert), and his grandchildren Lindsey Sandoval (John), Abigayle Glaze (Zachery), Zachary Arias (Savannah), Luke Arias, Jessica Idol (Charlie), and eight beautiful great grandchildren.
His family will receive friends for Calvin on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 9:00 AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas 77703, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
