Prentice was born on February 8, 1948, in McKinney, Texas, to the late Roy Lee Walker and Sedalia Johnson. He was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Beaumont. Prentice was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Prentice Boyd was dedicated to public service, he earned his accounting degree from Lamar University and built a career completing over 40 years of distinguished service to the City of Beaumont before retiring. He was a lifetime musician who loved playing the drums, while his vibrant personality and passion for singing and dancing created an energy that uplifted everyone in his life. Also a skilled carpenter and plumber, he brought true craftsmanship and dedication to working with his hands and caring for his home. Above all, he was a man of God who held his family near to his heart and treasured every moment they shared together.
Prentice was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee Walker and Sedalia Johnson; his son, Brian Pennison; his grandson, Jordan Flanagan; and his brother, Edward Boyd.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Hannah Yi Boyd; his sons, Prentice Boyd Jr. and wife Sylvia, Kolyn Boyd and wife Lindsey, and Bochen Boyd; his daughters, Challis Boyd Bradford and husband Terry, Tara Boyd, Kandyce Knight and husband Joshua, and Katelyn Boyd; his brother, Bunion Boyd and wife Margaret; his sisters, Bernice Chappall and husband Leroy, Esther Jackson and her late husband John, and Synthia Huland and husband William; his grandchildren, Jada Stephens, Jadlyn Stephens, Preston Boyd, Sherrell Watson, Tyra Bradford, Brandon Crayton, Makayla Boyd, Kynsley Boyd, Jett Knight, Jax Knight, Iris Boyd, Tyrnn Wiley, Tony Wiley, and Imari Oakley; and numerous other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Prentice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His music, laughter, love for his family, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
