

He was born October 23, 1926, in Beaumont,Texas to Verna Irene and Leon Bennie Nesom. Ray was a resident of Beaumont for 70 years before moving to Silsbee, Texas in 1996. Ray graduated from South Park High School in 1944. In October of that year he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific on the LST 655 during World War II. After discharge, he returned to Beaumont and attended Lamar Junior College. Ray joined his father in his cattle business and rice farming and continued this work until 1970. Until his retirement in 1993, he sold road construction materials. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Belle Nesom, his parents, his sister Ruth Nesom Paxton, and his brother, LB Nesom, Jr.
He is survived by his sons, Lon B Nesom and wife Sandra Merendino Nesom of Silsbee, TX and Lee Nesom and wife Sue Butler Nesom of Austin, TX; grandchildren Melanie Colunga, Greg Nesom, Jeffery (Jennifer) Nesom, Brenda (Ben) Broussard, Sarah Stidham, Brett (Norma) Nesom , Allison (Jason) Pogue, and Sidney (Tess) Wood; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Silsbee, where he and his wife were members, or to a charity of your choice. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday January 22, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Beaumont. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
