

After Richard graduated from Austin High School in Houston he enlisted in the Army on February 10, 1941 and was discharged on November 12, 1947 as a 2nd LT. In the Army, he was a mechanic in the Army Air Corp and later, upon becoming an officer, was a pilot who flew B-17 and B-29 airplanes. While Stationed in Nebraska, Richard met Jarmila Civish and they were married in Hemingford, NE on May 29, 1948. The couple lived in Houston, Texas, after they were married. On June 28, 1952 their only child Rosemary Baynes Gibson was born. Richard Baynes was a truck mechanic and a body repairman. He worked 26 years for “The White Motor Company” and 10 years for “Freightliner”. He was the treasurer and a deacon in his church, “Broadmoor Christian” in Houston Texas. After he retired, Richard moved with Jarmila to Beaumont Texas. His wife Jarmila passed away on 2-1-98. He is a member of “Westgate Memorial Baptist “church in Beaumont, TX.
Those left to remember Richard is his daughter and son-in-law Rosemary and T.C. Gibson; granddaughters Mary Anne Gibson Owens and husband Jeremy and Nancy Gibson Busceme and husband Mark; five great grandchildren, Zach, Addalee and Josh Owens and Ava and Bayne Busceme; niece Cindy Douglass; nephew Aaron Hayes; and many more nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday, February 10, at 2:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Jim “Big Jim” Salles. There will be a gathering from 12:00 to 2:00 pm to share memories and stories before the service.
