Ruthie Mae Davis (Snookie), 88, of Nederland, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Groves, Texas surrounded by her family. A native of Pitkin, Louisiana, Ruthie Mae lived in many cities around Texas most of her life but always remained proud of her Louisiana backwoods heritage and to be “from the country”. She spent many years in the Beaumont area raising her children, before moving to Nederland in 1995. She was a hard worker at numerous occupations throughout her life. As a single mom she was always able to ensure the kids were fed well and had plenty of good clothes, placing their needs above her own. Ruthie Mae loved music and enjoyed singing; she knew the words to many country songs and had a beautiful voice. She was a great cook with generations of family becoming fans of her meatloaf, salmon croquets, peanut butter fudge, and “Mamo Burritos”. She also enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, people watching, and spending time with her family.
A Celebration of Ruthie Mae's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
Ruthie Mae is preceded in death by her parents Luther and Nezzie Pelt, sister Henrietta Pelt, and grandson Timothy Gilbert.
Ruthie Mae is survived by her sons, John Gilbert and his wife Marie of Montgomery, and Tommy Gilbert of Nederland, daughter Gloria (Jeannie) Busselle of Nederland, brothers James Pelt of Port Arthur, and Buddy Pelt and his wife Dawn of Lumberton, and by her grandchildren Wesley Gilbert of Houston, Christopher Busselle of Nederland, Lauren Anderson and her husband Jared of Montgomery, Heather Maxwell and her husband Casey of Nederland, Olivia Butler of Port Arthur, and also by seven great grandchildren.
Ruthie Mae will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
