

Kay Sells-Traylor. She was lovingly raised in Beaumont, where her strong character and warm
spirit began to shine early in life. A proud graduate of French High School, Class of 1972,
Sharon continued her education at Chenier Business College in Beaumont, majoring in
Business.
Sharon's early career began at Watts Cafeteria in Beaumont, where she cultivated her love for
cooking and serving others. She later moved to Santa Monica, California, where she built a
successful career in the insurance industry, expanding her skills and creating lifelong friendships
along the way.
In the early 1980s, Sharon returned to her beloved hometown of Beaumont. There, she joined
the Beaumont Enterprise newspaper, contributing her talents and professionalism to the local
community. Eventually, her passion for culinary arts led her to the Texas Department of Criminal
Justice, LeBlanc Unit, where she worked as a Kitchen Sergeant until her retirement. Her
leadership and culinary expertise left a lasting impact on those she worked with.
A woman of deep faith and service, Sharon was a devoted member of Mount Rose Baptist
Church. She expressed her love for God through singing in the choir and teaching Sunday
School, guiding others with wisdom and grace.
On February 14, 1991, Sharon was united in marriage to Alfred Jones, with whom she shared a
life full of love, partnership, and cherished memories.
Cooking was not just a profession for Sharon—it was a heartfelt hobby that brought joy to her
family and friends. Her soulful meals and warm baked goods created cherished memories and
filled many hearts and homes with comfort and love. She was known as the family historian,
always the one to remember every detail, every birthday, and every story with unmatched
precision. Gardening also brought her peace and pride, another reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Kay Sells-Traylor.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her loving husband, Alfred Jones; stepchildren, Carol Kenebrew, Damon Jones and wife Megan, Shonneeke Jones, Rochelle Mayfield, DeMarcus Mathews; her devoted sisters, Rose Guillory (Tommy), Gloria Traylor-Cooper, Alfreda Williams, Wanda Traylor, and
Tangella “Tammy” Traylor; her goddaughter, Tanjetta “Tan” Woodside; her special friend,
Howard “Red” Gunner; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives,
church family, and lifelong friends.
Sharon Traylor Jones will be remembered for her warm heart, her generous spirit, her
unforgettable meals, and her unwavering love for her family and faith. Her legacy lives on in the
lives she touched and the love she so freely gave.
