Sidney Earl Nowell

He grew up and lived most of his life here in Beaumont. He worked from a young age with his father and brother, Charlie. They worked in many states building and maintained oil drilling platforms. He met his wife, Mary McCauley, and married her on June 10, 1963. They had two children, Kelley Nowell Miller in 1964 and Robert Nowell in 1969.

Sid was a hardworking man and worked at different professions throughout his life. In his later years, he was a machinist and fabricator, and he restored his home (with some complaining), but he did it for Cheryl. They worked side by side with ease, and he was able to share his knowledge without hesitation or complaint. Sid was so talented at everything he put his mind to.

In the 1970s and 1980s, he was an avid racer at H & B Speedway off Highway 105 and Motorama Speedway. After becoming a father, he brought his children out on the weekends. They were always at the tracks or on the water. He dedicated his life to work and family.

Through the years, he built cars, go-carts, mini-sprints, dune buggies, jet skis, and motorcycles. There were so many other wild projects and adventures along the way as well. He definitely loved to make motors run fast, sometimes finding ways to go against the rules – though he was exceedingly good at hiding his improvements. That was evident by how fast they were and how many races he and his children won.

Sid helped so many people throughout his life – never asking for anything in return other than their company. He enjoyed being in his shop drinking coffee in the morning and waiting on lunchtime to start “Miller time.” When it came to motorcycles, he would get on the lathe or mill equipment, and the handmade accessories were absolutely beautiful pieces for the bikes. He built so many motorcycles for his family and friends. They did have photos of every one of them from start to finish; however, they were lost after their home flooded.

Later in life, he worked for Mike and Tanya Sandifer at Sandifer’s Paint and Body. Mike got into go-cart racing and never trusted anyone but Sid to build his racing motors. Sid and his family would travel around the states to different arenas and had some great times. Sid also worked for American Crane & Rigging into his 70s – always showing and teaching others how to accomplish their goals.

After Mary passed in November of 2002, he noticed someone who was as broken as he was – Cheryl. Although they had known each other since the early 1980s, they found their way to each other’s hearts, and they married in December of 2003. They built motorcycles together and rode them all over the country. It was an absolutely joyous time for both of them. They thanked God for putting them in each other’s path to find something they were both needing at the time. It changed their lives for the better, and they enjoyed each other’s company immensely. He promised her 20 years and gave her almost 23 happily married years together.

Sid was saved in our Lord Jesus’ name. Although he didn’t talk about religion, he had a deep devotion to God Almighty.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Chester Nowell and Wanda Lafayette Lodin, and his first wife, Mary Evelyn McCauley Nowell.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Anne Domenico Nowell; his children, Catherine Kelley Nowell-Miller and Robert Chase Nowell; his stepchildren, Casey Anne Mead, Colby Michael Eaves, and Joseph Tanner Eaves; his grandchildren, Chris Wright, Dillon Wright, Jordan Wright, Justin Nowell, Amanda Nowell, Mattie Nowell, and Mallory Nowell; his step-grandchildren, Kendal Jordan, Riley Jordan, Anorah Eaves, and Emberly Eaves; his great-grandchildren, Zoey Riley, Sydney Wright, Lila Puents, Leanne Puenta; and his nephew Chuck Nowell and numerous other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
