During Woody’s young childhood, he was raised in Orleans, La, but returned to Texas City, Tx at the age of 13 to live with his Aunt Joyce and Uncle Bill. He graduated from Texas City High School in 1960. Woody was a super athletic, excelling in football, baseball and track and field. After graduation Woody began a career as a master carpenter and continued until his retirement. Being raised by his Uncle Bill, a strong union man, Woody became a member of the Carpenters Union Local 551 in Houston, Tx. and remained a member until his death.
Woody is preceded in death by his father Woodrow Hopkins,Sr., mother and stepfather, Flo and George Fredrick, his sister, Sandra Hopkins and his aunt and uncle, Bill and Joyce Burns.
He is survived by his fur baby Noah, niece, Tammy Denton and nephew, John Bares, numerous cousins and many good friends. Woody had a good heart and will be missed by many.
Woody will be cremated under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home and an Inurnment of his ashes will be held at 2PM on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
