Lorraine was born in Seattle, Washington to Mildred and Guy Campbell. She grew up in Milwaukie graduating from Milwaukie High School in 1939. As a teenager, she was a ballerina with the Portland Junior Symphony and Ballet. She married Glen Alvstad in December, 1941.
Lorraine worked at Oregon Woolen Mill during World War II. later she worked at Meier & Frank, Lloyd Center and at Intel Corporation in Hillsboro. Throughout her life she contributed to the community as an active volunteer in numerous organizations.
She and Glen retired to Kona, Hawaii where she continued to live after his passing in 1989. Lorraine enjoyed knitting, swimming and walking along Alii Drive collecting flowers along the way. In her seventies she completed three Portland Marathons.
She is survived by her sons, Glynn (Sarah), Randy (Karen), Rick (Stephanie); her daughter, Darlene (Tom) Taylor; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Lorraine was a devoted wife and mother, an eternal optimist who enjoyed a good laugh. Her loving heart and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
As Rick, Lorraine's son expressed at her 80th birthday "We always had fun together. You were like a friend and a mother all in one. I will always look back and smile, laugh and feel good, for these are the memories every child should have of their mother."
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. Ocean burial in Hawaii with her husband Glen.
