Benjamin Gangay Dadios, of Hillsboro, Oregon, passed away on August 24, 2018. Born on August 16, 1932, in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Philippines, he joined our Creator a week after he celebrated his 86th birthday with two wonderful surprise birthday parties where he proclaimed that he was ready to “expire and land in heaven”. Over the past several years, he had braved congestive heart failure, Afib, COPD, cirrhosis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and, in the last four months of his life, lung cancer.

Benjamin, fondly called Wally or Ben, was a dedicated, supportive and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and anything else he could be for anyone. Benjamin earned his Juris Doctor degree from Manuel L. Quezon University in the Philippines. One of his shining moments in law school was when he successfully passed a tricky oral examination and his professor did not call him a “parrot”. He was a fierce and an uncompromising trial lawyer for 47 years and when faced with opponents in the courtroom who were bending the truth, he would tell the judge, “Your Honor, my opponent is like a man falling in dark waters, seeking momentary relief, while standing on a sliding stone.”

Benjamin moved to the United States at the age of 75, with his wife, Filomena. He was fun loving, caring, affectionate, compassionate, and generous. He was a tireless, inspiring, and captivating storyteller with a witty sense of humor, and a great motivator. He loved to sing and dance for whoever and wherever. He had a sharp memory and loved to recite the “Gettysburg Address” by Abraham Lincoln and “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” by Patrick Henry – in fact, he was able to do this even two days before he passed. Above all, he was a man of faith, and lived a life of gratitude, forgiveness, hope, and surrender.

Benjamin is survived by his wife, Filomena and their four children, Analizza, Gina Lourdes, Wally Ben, and Raphael Nino; son-in-law, John; nine grandchildren, Jed, Jordan, Carl, Ivy, Lance, Yani, Bea, Dwayne, and Kyrie; mothers of his grandchildren, Glayzel and Jennifer; great-grandchild, Keziah; three sisters, Luviminda, Luzviminda, and Emelita; and the jolly Dadios clan in Portland, Oregon, San Francisco Bay Area, and Laguna, Philippines.

Benjamin (“son of the right hand” in Hebrew) Dadios (“of God” in Spanish) lived up to his name and had fulfilled his mission. Funeral Mass on Saturday, September 8, 2018, 10:00 am, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Beaverton, Oregon, followed by a reception immediately following Mass. His final resting place – Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
