Life in the saddle began on Doris and Kent Brough’s farm. Being the youngest, Jo found solace with “old Babe” the family horse. By the age of 8, she had saved and purchased her first horse “Pixie.” After high school graduation Jo married Larry Weable, and together they had a daughter Stephanie. Divorce made Jo determined to provide for herself and daughter. She enrolled at Missouri University and graduated with a Master of Social Work. Jo’s career took her, 2 cats, AC and Taylor and 2 horses, Ben and Billy to Minnesota. Jo became a federal employee and tenured at Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Working as a Clinical Social Worker in mental health, she took the edge off with horse events/classes, travels with family and friends, and was giddy going to Rolex in Kentucky. Jo retired from the VA, she had served Veterans with serious mental health issues and homelessness. Stephanie married Mark Libby and they had John Robert and Michael "Jo"seph. Most important was being “Grandma Jo” to her grandsons. Jo loaded her Toyota Tundra and Trailer with Ben and Bert, a cat. Moving to Oregon to be closer to Stephanie's family and Brough’s. Oregon welcomed Jo with hiking and horse trails, coast lined shores, waterfalls that new and old friends visited with her. Holidays with family and a family reunion were highlights. Ben died leaving room for another horse. Shammy became Jo’s heart horse with a bonus of Pickles, a tripod cat. Jo’s last years were difficult with two diagnoses of cancer and her heart was broken due to Shammy’s passing. Jo’s body weakened and a stronger mother daughter relationship developed with family togetherness.
Jo has been reunited in heaven with her family: Mother Doris, Father Kent, Sisters Shirley Miles and Helen Pigg, and Brother James. Joining her days later, Mark Libby (son in law) died. Surviving are her daughter Stephanie (Weable) Libby, grandsons John and Michael, sister in law Merrlyn “Sue” Bailey, nephew Randy Miles, brother in law Charles (Doris) and their family, plus several cousins.
