Christopher James Warren

April 19, 1939 – November 11, 2025
Obituary of Christopher James Warren
IN THE CARE OF

Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Chapel

Christopher James Warren, 86, of Portland, Oregon, formerly of Connecticut and New York, passed away on November 11, 2025.

Born in Mamaroneck, New York, on April 19, 1939, he was the son of Richard F. Warren and Veronica McLoughlin Warren. He is predeceased by his brothers, Richard Warren and Thomas Warren.

Christopher attended Iona College and received his Masters degree at the University of Connecticut. He married the love of his life, Frances Letizia Warren in 1964. Together they raised three daughters and built a family rooted in curiosity, humor, and creativity.

Chris began his career as Assistant Headmaster at Beckett Academy in East Haddam and later taught English, Journalism, and Film at Middletown High School, where he also ran the school newspaper and radio station. He was a beloved teacher whose influence reached generations of students. Beyond the classroom, he produced film festivals across Connecticut and served as a movie critic for a local radio station.

In a second act, Chris founded Murder By Invitation, a traveling theatrical murder mystery company that brought his wit and love of performance to audiences up and down the East Coast. He wrote, directed, and hosted these productions—often recruiting family members to play alongside him.

A lifelong cinephile, Chris had an encyclopedic knowledge of film and shared that love through nightly screenings long before streaming or VHS. In the digital age, he became a sought-after commentator on numerous film websites. At Creekside Village, where he and his wife spent their latter years in retirement, he hosted a twice-weekly film series with brief lectures on cinematic history. He was particularly fond of It’s a Wonderful Life—a story he saw reflected in his own, filled with dreams, family, and quiet heroism.

Chris cherished roaring fires, snowy days, big band music, and a well-made cocktail. He loved theater, adventure, and his three grandchildren, Dove Miller, Skylar Crown, and Bryce Miller, whom he adored beyond measure.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Letizia Warren; his daughters Deborah Warren of York, Maine, Maureen Warren Miller of Portland, Oregon, and Julianne Warren of Brooklyn, New York; his sister Ginny Warren Pelliccio; many nieces and nephews, and his grandchildren.

A private service will be held on November 21, 2025 in Portland, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, an organization supporting veterans across the country, and the Oregon Food Bank, to help other families enjoy their holidays together.
