He was raised and attended school in Lexington, Oregon. During his early years, he assisted with wheat farming on the family ranch. Later, he attended college at both Oregon State University and graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Mathematics, intent on teaching. He married his high school sweetheart, Ada Nadine Waddill, on August 27, 1960. The couple first lived in California and then moved to Beaverton, Oregon, where they raised their five children.
Don’s career began teaching mathematics, then later becoming a vice principal and finally an elementary school principal. He was a leader in introducing technology to the district, creating some of the first school-wide computer labs.
He loved tinkering and fixing machines (including cars), working in the yard and gardening on his junior acre in the middle of town. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family including vacation time at the property in La Pine. He also loved deer and elk hunting and never missed a season in his younger years. In retirement, Don created a hunting business where he booked people into hunts across the country. This led to him checking out the location first, and he proudly displayed the bear skins, turkey sprays, moose and elk horns he acquired on those expeditions.
Don is survived by children: Donald(Judy), Jillane(David), Julie, Lori, and James(Sara) Hunt. He has six grandchildren: Emma(Andrew), Annabel, Calvin, Ryan, Tyler(Elizabeth), Joseph and two great grandchildren Landen and Caleb.
He was preceded in death by his brother, sister and wife Nadine, whom he was married to for 47 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 5105 SW Franklin Ave, Beaverton, OR 97005, US, on November 23, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
