Elizabeth Helen Stofko

Ellie Stofko, age 87, of Portland, Oregon, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for her family. Born in Slovakia, Ellie immigrated to the United States with her family in her 30s in search of new opportunities and built a life rooted in hard work, compassion, and community.

For 38 years, Ellie shared her gift of music as a piano teacher, inspiring generations of students with her encouragement and love of all things classical music. Beyond music, she was an avid reader who volunteered at the library and found joy in books throughout her life. Ellie also enjoyed playing tennis and traveling with her husband, John, in their RV. She was a long time member of St. Pius X Catholic church, as her faith was a big part of her life. More than any accomplishment, however, Ellie considered her family to be her greatest blessing, and she cherished every moment spent with those she loved.

Ellie is survived by her daughter, Renata Hahn, and her son, Mike Stofko; and by her beloved grandchildren, Carina Hahn, Erik Hahn, So-Mai Brown, and Keenan Brown. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John Stofko, and her sister Icka Hudekova. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1280 NW Saltzman Rd., Portland, OR 97229. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend. After the service we can share memories of Ellie over coffee and desserts at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Cedar Mill & Bethany Community Libraries, honoring Ellie's lifelong love of reading and learning. Her memory will live on in the music she shared, the lives she touched, and the family she loved so dearly.
