Our much-loved mother passed away on November 15, 2010, surrounded by her loved ones.
Gladys had a gift that will be ever lasting. She was a kind woman and had such a positive outlook on life no matter how difficult a situation or circumstance could be. In her heart and mind, the cup was always half full. She never complained.....never.
Gladys A. Holm was born on February 10, 1921, in Alpena, South Dakota to Elizabeth and Albert Kempf. She spent her early childhood with her family in South Dakota before they moved out west to Kennewick, Washington. She graduated from Kennewick High School and then went on to graduate and receive her license as Beauty Salon Owner Operator in 1942. Gladys enjoyed her profession and took great pride in teaching her students. She became a salon owner for many years in Longview, Washington and made many life long friendships with her clients. Mom shared a lot of wisdom with her friends and they always left with a feeling of joy. Gladys was also an active member in Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.
After moving to Beaverton, Oregon, Gladys and Harold became members of Beaverton United Methodist Church. They enjoyed becoming involved in all the church related organizations. Their church affiliation soon became a cherished part of their lives. Gladys made many life long friendships and she loved her friends dearly. Her many friends will remember her enthusiasm working and helping to organize the church bizarre.
Gladys had a love of gardening and she also was a talented seamstress. It was only recently that she was not able to care for her beautiful flowers.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold in 2002. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Richard and Patti Holm, Connie and Ted Gilbert. Two grandchildren, Tricia Young and Jennifer Dunlay and four great-grandchildren, Jillian and Joshua Dunlay and Catherine and Benjamin Young.
