OBITUARY

Grace Marie Link

Grace M. Link, age 81 years, died peacefully on August 25, 2019. She was born in Hillsboro, Oregon on May 22, 1938. She was the third of twelve children born to Raymond and Agnes (Vandehey) Hertel and was raised on their farm in Hillsboro. She graduated from St. Mary of the Valley High School and went on to receive her Nursing degree in Portland, Oregon.

She met James J. Link (Jim) on a blind date set up by their friends. He was serving in the U.S. Navy and after a courtship, primarily through the mail, they were married on May 2, 1961. During his 20 years in the submarine service, they set up home in many different locations in the United States and raised nine 9 children along the way. She and Jim were married for 51 years until his death on March 20, 2013.

Grace was a member of St. Cecilia Parish in Beaverton, Oregon for 42 years and had a strong devotion to being a Eucharistic Minister and in the St. Vincent de Paul Society serving the homebound and under privileged. She volunteered 15+ years at Jesuit High School in Beaverton, Oregon. She never lost her farm roots staying busy with her garden and sewing projects. All the while insuring her children were raised with strong moral and ethical values.

She is survived by her 9 children: Jim (Diane) Link, Janet (Doug deceased) Schwarz, Jeff Link, Julie (Tim) Sheerin, Ken (Beth) Link, Greg (Kathy) Link, Kevin (Jessica) Link, Paula (John) Miller, and Chris (Kallan) Link. In addition, her 26 grandchildren and numerous brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces survive her.

The Funeral Mass and Rosary will be held on September 6, 2019 at St. Cecilia Church in Beaverton, Oregon. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30am with the Funeral Mass at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Cecilia Church is encouraged.
