Joan Ruth Joy was born on October 17, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Daniel and Pauline Joy. She had fond memories of growing up with her brother and making candy with her mother & father. Joan was a mother of three when she graduated from pharmacy school at Oregon State University. She worked as a pharmacist for over 35 years. In her late 50’s, Joan attended Oregon Health Science University to become a registered nurse, graduating in 1990; a second career she very much enjoyed. She was devoted to learning Spanish and moved to Guatemala and Mexico City for over two years of intensive Spanish language studies. She then worked in nursing with the Jesuit Volunteers. Joan was highly educated, a prolific reader who was often taking courses at Portland State. She enjoyed studying music theory, iconography and calligraphy. In her spare time, Joan also enjoyed playing the classical guitar and piano. She was a parishioner of both St. Cecilia and Holy Trinity Catholic Churches.

Joan was a strong woman who raised her three children on her own. She enjoyed the quiet of her log home outside of McMinnville Oregon. She has woman who walked in her faith. Joan’s friends meant a lot to her and especially the friends in her circle of faith. She loved the Lord and she is home now.

Joan is survived by: Her son & daughter-in-law Daniel & Rose Joy and their children Gwen & Anthony; her daughter Lissa Joy; her son Michael Joy and his stepchildren of Monet, Jens, Ellie and Cassi.

Joan is also survived by her Cousins: Jerry & Bill Gerard, Rose Anne Strunk and Mary Lou Caines.
