John Donald “Jack” Smith was born in Bellingham, Washington, on February 4, 1943, to John R. Metzner and Helene Quivey. A few years later, Jack’s mother divorced and remarried, and Jack’s stepfather (Frank Smith) adopted him. Jack was a graduate of Portland’s Lincoln High School, Class of 1961. On August 3, 1963, Jack married June Amis and they resided in Portland, Oregon. They were blessed with 2 children, Dana L. Smith and Daren M. Smith.
Jack established his locksmith business in Beaverton, Oregon, and named the company Jack Smith “The Locksmith.” This decision served him very well throughout the years because Jack provided expert locksmithing and security support to the local automobile dealerships from Beaverton to Forest Grove, Oregon. Jack was known for his expertise in rekeying new and old automobiles, not to mention performing safety changes in the dealership offices and other buildings.
He was relaxing at the Hillsboro Moose Lodge one evening, and that’s where he met his soon-to-be bride, Sally Higby. They have remained together ever since that romantic evening in 1983. On November 12, 1983, Jack married Sally, the love of his life, in Vancouver, Washington, followed by a reception. Sally decided to join him as his locksmithing assistant and served as his right-hand during just about any rekeying process. They functioned as a well-oiled team and were inseparable!
Family and friends are invited to enjoy a beverage after the Chapter ceremony in the
Fellowship Room of the Funeral Home. Jack is survived by his wife Sally, and children, Dana Smith and Daren Smith. His stepchildren include Cindy Higgins and Ken Higby.
