

John (Johnnie) was born in Tualatin, Oregon to proud parents John and Margarita Rychen. He attended high school in Beaverton, Oregon.
John began his lifelong career in 1944 at age sixteen when he went to work for the Portland Terminal Railroad. He eventually retired from the railroad after 40 years of loyal service.
John joined the Sixth United States Army and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was later reactivated to serve in the Korean War.
John married Marjorie Ross on September 23rd, 1951 and remained her closest friend and loving husband until his death. Although not having any children of his own, “Uncle Johnnie” was a dearly beloved Uncle, Great Uncle, and Great Great Uncle to his many nieces and nephews. His quiet yet thoughtful manner and honest smile won over all those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his spouse Marjorie Rychen, his sister Dorothy Coulson, and numerous family and friends.
John, and Marjorie, were members of Southwest Hills Baptist Church in Beaverton, Oregon. Previously they belonged to Southwest Bible Church in Beaverton.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life is planned at Southwest Hills Baptist Church at 9100 SW 135th Ave Beaverton, OR 97008 Phone: 503-524-8686 on Tuesday May 28th at 2:00 PM. There will be a private Inurnment at Willamette National Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to the Portland Rescue Mission and Southwest Hills Baptist Church Missions.
