Marcia covered quite a few miles in her life. She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska before she moved to New Jersey as a child with her family. She would later attend Glassboro State College (now Rowan University), in NJ, earning a Bachelor’s and then a Master’s degree in Education. Eventually living in Westmont, NJ, she taught at William P. Tatem Elementary School and raised three kids as a single mom. Marcia began as a Title I teacher before getting her first classroom teaching second grade and spending 30 years at Tatem teaching and tutoring students. She moved to Georgia in 2000 – after retiring from Tatem – to be closer to her daughter, Sharon. Then, she followed Sharon once again in 2001, this time, out to the Pacific Northwest and beautiful Oregon.
No matter which side of the country she was on, Marcia loved the shores of New Jersey and the coasts of Oregon. She was also an avid reader, an enthusiastic crossword puzzler, a devoted Christian and a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. For decades, Marcia would travel the United States by train every summer visiting those she cared about most. No matter where her passions took her, family and friendship were among the most important things in her life.
Per her wishes, there is no service planned, and in lieu of flowers the family is recommending a donation to your local elementary school or teacher if you’d like to honor Marcia in some way; whether simple school supplies or even books to the school’s library in memory of Marcia’s deep love of reading.
Preceded in death by her mother, Alice, her stepfather, William, and her son, Sean, Marcia is survived by her siblings, Carol (Dick), Bill (Kathie) and Jeanene; her children, Phil (Mary) and Sharon; and her grandchildren, Chris, Matthew, Erin (Calin) and Cina.
Marcia will be forever missed, but her love lives on in everyone she touched along the way.
