Margaret “Marge” Terese Thomas (maiden name Quevedo), 79, of Beaverton, OR passed away on January 9, 2013 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center from complications of pneumonia. She was surrounded by family in her final hours.
Margaret was born December 2, 1933 in Dallas, TX to Cipriana and Guadalupe Quevedo. Marge was the oldest daughter in a family of 9 children. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Jane, Josephine, Martha, Florence and Rose Marie, and her brothers, James and Andrew. Also, surviving are her daughters Marie and Marguerite “Misty” and her son Noel James and grandchildren: Nathan, Katherine and Joseph Cassidy.
Marge spent 42 years as a lithographer in the printing industry. Her natural talents in art were very valuable in this career. She worked with many well-known companies designing their marketing material such as Coors, Sears and Roebuck, and John Deer. She retired from the printing industry in 1992 and moved to California to live with her daughter, Misty, and husband, Kevin Cassidy. In 1996, her family moved to Beaverton.
Marge dedicated her free time to her church and helping youth in Girl Scouts of America and Catholic faith formation. She and her daughters have been lifelong Girl Scouts. This past year Marge celebrated 50 years as an adult volunteer in Girl Scouting. Being bi-lingual, Marge was a very valuable resource in faith formation to both English and Spanish speaking families in the St Cecilia and Holy Trinity parishes. Since her daughter Marie has Downs Syndrome, Margaret also spent many years helping handicapped children and adults enjoy a better life by helping with Special Olympics and other community activities.
During her retirement years, Marge utilized her amazing art skills to not only create wonderful pieces on her own, but also to teach others drawing and painting. Marge’s artistic abilities enabled her to excel in all forms of media ranging from oil painting to water color. Her talent was recognized by others and she was included in several local art exhibits and sold some of her works to admirers. One of her personal accomplishments was to overcome her fear of the water, so she joined a water aerobics class at the Beaverton Swim Center.
Marge’s greatest pleasure came from being with family and friends and expressing life’s beauty in her paintings. There are many things about Marge that we’ll remember, her skills, her diverse knowledge, the beauty of her paintings, but what we will never forget is her humble manner and her joyous laugh.
For those in the Beaverton area, come celebrate Marge’s life on January 16, 2013. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverton. Services will begin at 11:00 AM with viewing an hour prior. A reception for friends and family will be held afterwards at her daughter, Mistys’ home to celebrate Marge’s life. The family will be sharing stories and many of her painting as well as creating a memory quilt for Marie.
In lieu of flowers, Marge’s family requests that you donate to the Quiet Waters Outreach organization, that help developmentally disabled individuals and their families. (http://www.quietwatersoutreach.org/qwo/help/donate.asp).
