July 9, 1952 – April 9, 2026
Michael John Bohan, age 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Beaverton, Oregon. Born on July 9, 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska, Michael grew up in the Chicago area, the son of Harold M. and Alice M. (Weiss) Bohan.
A lifelong scholar, Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Illinois Benedictine College in 1974, followed by a PhD in Solid State Physics from Iowa State University in 1981. It was during his time at Iowa State—fittingly, at a Nebraska vs. Iowa State football game—that he met the love of his life, Linda Theresa Meyer.
Michael began his career in the San Francisco Bay Area with AMD before being recruited by ATEQ (later Etec/Applied Materials) in 1984, prompting a move to Beaverton. Linda joined him there, and they married in 1986, later welcoming their son, Connor, in 1992. Ever a student of life, Michael transitioned from the tech industry to the classroom after earning a Master’s in Education from Pacific University. He shared his love of learning with the students of Aloha High School for ten years before retiring in 2017.
Outside of his professional achievements, Michael was a man of many layers. He was forever a guitarist, a hobby he began in high school and carried through to the final weeks of his life. Running was another lifelong pursuit—one he often described as a "love/hate" relationship. Carrying his high school coach’s "no pain, no gain" mantra with him, he trained for marathons throughout his 20s and 30s. This dedication evolved into a 30-year legacy as the leader of his Hood to Coast team, "The Pseudo Runners," whom he guided with equal parts spirit and humor.
During the final four years of his life, exercise became his medicine. With the help of his trainer—whose banter and spirit matched his own—Michael used his athlete's discipline to fight the progression of Parkinson’s, working tirelessly to remain as functional as possible.
A third layer of Michael’s life was his commitment to his community and civic duty. He was a frequent blood donor, quietly answering the call whenever his community was in need. His political involvement spanned decades, from writing editorials for his school newspaper and competing on his college debate team to his active participation in local politics, including a run for State Representative.
Michael’s love for his family was often unspoken but deeply evident to everyone who knew him. These values were rooted in his Chicago upbringing and twelve years of Catholic education—a devotion that clearly carried forward into his life with his wife and son. He found his greatest joy in simple, shared moments: tackling crossword puzzles, making heart-shaped pizzas for Valentine’s Day, or brewing beer with his son.
Michael is survived by his wife, Linda, and his son, Connor (Tina Brantley). He is also survived by his eight siblings: Martin (Janelle) Bohan, David (Kay Kemp) Bohan, Stephen (Karen Horn) Bohan, Barbara (Lynn) Jester, Terry (Lisa) Bohan, Richard (Pam) Bohan, James (Lyn) Bohan, and Karen (John) Cantelmo.
