Bob spent his early years in San Leandro, California, where he attended Arroyo High School in nearby San Lorenzo. His earliest ambitions were to be a highway patrolman or musician; however, his professional journey took a different path. Bob pursued higher education at Chabot Community College in San Leandro, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Accounting. Marked by steady growth and dedication, Bob rose in his career from a warehouse clerk to Chief Accountant and eventually serving as an office manager. These accomplishments were a source of great pride for him.
In 1963, Bob married and settled in Hayward, California. He later moved to Fremont before relocating to Portland, Oregon to be closer to his family—Michael, Catherine, and their three children: Anthony, Anna, and Mars Borges. Being a father and grandfather brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
Bob lived his life simply and with humility. He valued common sense, patience, and compassion—qualities he hoped others would learn from him. Known for his low-profile demeanor and dry wit, he found humor in animals, good jokes, comedy films, government, and the occasional absurdity of everyday life.
His passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. Bob enjoyed golfing, making flutes by hand, bowling with friends, crafting ceramics, hiking through nature trails, fishing on quiet mornings, and watching hot air balloons drift across the sky. He had a deep affection for animals—especially his beloved cat Toby—and cherished sunny days spent outdoors.
Music played a special role in Bob’s life; two of his favorite songs were “I Can See Clearly Now” and “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” both reflecting the optimism he carried through life’s ups and downs. His favorite colors—green and purple—mirrored his love for nature and individuality.
Bob is lovingly remembered by his brother Mark Borges; sister-in-law Annette Borges; nephews Anthony and Joey Borges; son Michael Borges; sister Debbie Rodgers; daughter-in-law Catherine Borges; and grandchildren Anthony, Anna, and Mars Borges.
A caring soul with a compassionate heart and trusted presence among those who knew him best, Bob will be remembered for the quiet strength he brought into every room—and the warmth he left behind.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
