Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 23 years, Vickie Duchscherer, and his family, Andy Root and his wife Bryaunna, Kelly Miller, Kirk Miller, Dave Root, Dan Strandy and wife Sherri and bonus son Josh Duchscherer and wife Teresa. He was the proud grandpa to his grandchildren, Alyssa, Logan, Savannah, Nate, Hayden, Brooklyn and Jackson. Ron was the second born son of Catherine and Ora Root (deceased.) He was the brother to Richard (Rick) Root and wife Merri Kay, and Robert (Bob) Root (deceased.) Ron loved his large extended family, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
As a husband, he was adored, and he adored Vickie in return. They filled their lives together with new experiences worldwide, always in search of laughter and new places to explore.
He went to Vestal Elementary and Madison High School and graduated from Portland State with a degree in computer programming. He worked at UHaul, Far West Federal Savings & Loan where he met many friends who were still close after 40 years. He most recently worked Intel where he retired in 2015. He also truly enjoyed playing bridge at Vancouver and Portland Bridge Clubs and considered them his Bridge families. Ron fulfilled one of his life’s goals of publishing his own book… and in true Ron fashion not only wrote one book, he wrote a trilogy!
Ron’s greatest gift was his zest for life. He was ‘all in’ on white water rafting and took his children from early ages. That love for the adrenaline rush was passed on to his sons, and now their children. What a legacy.
He had a wicked sense of humor, and many, many lifelong friends. He was smart, witty, pragmatic and engaging - and filled the room at a party with his stories.
We will look for the signs every day and will never stop loving you and remembering the life we shared. How lucky we are to have lived a life with you that makes saying goodbye so hard.
Please join Ron’s family in celebrating his life on Saturday, November 14th, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse in the Octagonal Barn - 4045 NE Cornelius Pass Rd, Hillsboro, OR 97124. Please arrive promptly at 2:00 PM.
