Susanne Burnett died unexpectedly in her sleep on March 28, 2026. She was born in Arlington, VA on September 25, 1947
Her mother, Jean Zingsheim Burnett, and her natural father Earl Slayton predeceased Susanne. She is survived by her older brother, Roger Burnett of Blacksburg, VA as well as an amazing group of friends in the Beaverton area. Roger knew Marron, Sharon, Karyn, James and had heard Susanne talk about Bobbie and her close group of traveling friends as well as many others in the Westbrook community. She valued them all.
Her extended family also included sister-in-law, Bonnie, nephews and nieces Roger, Jr, Steve, Shannon and their children Shelby, Henry, Cheyenne, Stephanie, and David. Extended family also included her cousins Janet and Patricia. All will miss her.
Susanne lived an interesting life. She grew up in Washington, Oregon, Texas and Idaho. A high school tennis star, Navy wife, student of art (MA, Art History), Ford assembly line worker, Ford QA manager, and Silicon Valley tech company manager were among her endeavors. She finally moved back to Portland to care for her mother and finish her working life as a manager for the IRS. In retirement she was a member of the Master Gardeners raising vegetables for food banks, a therapy horse groomer as well as a world traveler, getting enjoyment from seeing far-flung places in person. She had just returned from a trip to Scandinavia before she died. Susanne had many dogs and loved them all.
A private gathering to celebrate Susanne’s extraordinary life will be scheduled. Time, date, and place to be announced.
