It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Terrence Michael Weekes. Terry, born on May 6, 1954, in Santa Rosa, California, passed away at the age of 71 while residing in Portland, Oregon.
Terry grew up in Hayward, California, where he spent his childhood surrounded by his five siblings and their mother, Helen Weekes. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Lisa Weekes, with whom he shared 33 cherished years of marriage. Terry is survived by two siblings, Monica and Rusty Weekes, and he leaves behind his two beloved sons, Connor and Kienan, of whom he was incredibly proud.
Throughout his life, Terry was a beloved member of every community he joined. Friends, colleagues, and those he coached remember him for his quiet yet confident presence. He embodied selflessness and commitment, always eager to give before receiving, support without being asked, and love unconditionally those who grew close to him.
Terry's career was marked by his outstanding achievements as both a collegiate and professional soccer player and coach. He played professionally in the NASL and the ASL and served as an assistant coach at Santa Clara University and UCLA. A member of the Santa Clara Athletic Hall of Fame, Terry was a goalkeeper for the Broncos from 1973 to 1976 before being selected 4th overall in the first round by the San Jose Earthquakes, the highest draft pick of any Santa Clara University athlete to a major professional sports league. Following his playing career, he became the National Marketing Director for Adidas America and played a significant role in the United States Soccer Federation during the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
In the realm of sports marketing and sales, Terry was well-known and respected. He worked with FC Bayern Munich, overseeing all operations in the United States, including exhibitions and new business partnerships. Additionally, he served as the Director of Sales for the San Jose Earthquakes and held positions such as National Manager with Apex One and National Director of Marketing and Licensing for the U.S. Soccer Federation. Most recently, Terry founded and served as President of the Tri Valley Soccer Club, which allowed him to give back to the game and nurture young athletes in the Bay Area until his retirement in 2021.
A celebration honoring the life and legacy of Terry Weekes will take place on January 10, 2026, at 10 AM PST. This gathering will be held at Mission Santa Clara, on the campus of Santa Clara University—a place that held special meaning for him throughout his life's journey.
