Tom grew up in Colorado with a deep love for music that would shape his life and bring joy to those around him. After graduating from Niwot High School in 1980, he pursued his passion for music at the University of Colorado Denver. A highlight performance was his role as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at Trinity Church in Denver.
A gifted and largely self-taught musician, Tom mastered both keyboard and guitar. In addition to recording his own songs, he played open mics and accompanied musicians in Colorado and Oregon. Tom’s longtime friends (including members of the online group #30plus and fellow musicians) often spoke of his remarkable musicality and his sense of humor.
Tom was a lifelong and loyal fan of the Denver Broncos and watched every game he could.
Tom is survived by his parents, Charles "Skip" Nitchie and Mary Ann Nitchie of Vancouver, Washington; his sisters, Mary Kay Nitchie Lodwick (James) of Portland Oregon, and Jane Ogborn (Jon) of Painesville OH; his niece, Marjorie Lodwick of Slana, AK; and his nephew, Carter Lodwick of Los Angeles, CA.
