

Born Thanksgiving Day 1952 in Montgomery, WV, she was the daughter of the late George William and Jo Anna Mullens Horrocks.
Mrs. Hancock graduated from Ansted High School, was a nurse’s assistant and retired from Fayette Senior Program having been site manager, van driver, homemaker and coordinator.
She loved being the children’s church teacher and was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Lansing Baptist Church and Gum Springs Baptist Church.
In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, especially flea marketing, sight-seeing and collecting rocks (from here to Utah and all places in between).
Preceding her in death include her parents, grandparents, Wilber and Mahala Mullens and Thomas and Abbie Horrocks; infant sister, Barbara Sue (1954); first husband, William “Bill” Stepp, Jr. (1982); 2nd husband, Carl Edward Whisman (2009); sister-in-law, Brenda Horrocks (2018) and her doggy, Princess.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, John C. Hancock, Jr.; three stepsons, J.C. Hancock of Summerlee, Doug (Mary) Whisman of Fayetteville, and Paul (Susan) Whisman of Orlando, FL; two step grandsons, Josh Whisman of Fayetteville and Logan Hancock of Prosperity; brother, Tom (Margaret) Horrocks of Lansing, and sister, Vanessa (Edward) Palmer of Hilltop. Also, four nephews, Chris (Kerrie) Horrocks of Hilltop, Chris (Linette) O’Boyle of Jackson, OH, Danny (Tiffany) Palmer of Port Royal, VA, and Jason Palmer of Rock Ledge, FL; three nieces, Hollie (Jonathan) Osborn of Victor, Treasure (Brandon) Palmer-Bragg of North Page, and Mahaley Palmer of Hilltop; two great-nieces, Victoria Horrocks of Lansing and Elizabeth Palmer of Port Royal, VA and five great-nephews, Trevor Osborn of Victor, Tanner Osborn of Victor, Darren Helmick of Jackson, OH, Caden O’Boyle of Jackson, OH and Tristan Palmer of Port Royal, VA.
Celebration of Life services will be 1:00P.M. Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home 350 West Maple Avenue Fayetteville, WV with Pastor Kenny Hayes officiating. Visitation will be from 7:00P.M. – 8:00P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home.
