Adrian Allen Stroud, age 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana died at his daughter's home in Greenfield, IN on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Adrian was born April 21, 1925 in Eckerty, Indiana to the late Rogenia (DeWitt) Stroud and Rheuben Stroud. He is also preceded in death by his grandchild, John Williams. He grew up as a farm boy in Crawford County. He was the second to the oldest of 7 children. At 16 he lied about his age to join the Conservation Corps. Later, he would serve as a medic during World War II in the famed 42nd Infantry "Rainbow" Division under General Patton. His division helped liberate 30,000 prisoners from the SS-controlled concentration camp in Dachau, Germany. Adrian returned home after the war to marry Nellie Newton Stroud, his childhood sweetheart, on December 14, 1946. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in 2020.
Adrian is survived by his wife, Nellie (Newton) Stroud; daughters, Deborah Chappell (Verle) and Peggy Brown (Mike); grandchildren, Jason Williams (Anne-Marie), Sarah Weathers (Corey), Amanda Bruning, and Amy Williams; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main St, Beech Grove, Indiana with his funeral to follow at 6:00 PM. He will be laid to rest with a graveside service Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, English, Indiana.
