Claude Henry "Hank" Huxley 74, of Beech Grove, IN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, passing away peacefully on January 5, 2026. He was a loving son, brother, husband, uncle, and cousin.
Hank was born in Indianapolis, IN, on September 5, 1951, to Robert Wayne and LaVina Mae Huxley.
Hank graduated from Beech Grove School Corporation in 1970, and immediately started working as a custodian at Beech Grove School Corporation for 36 years.
Anything Hank did he gave 110%, whether it be helping his dad, starting at age five, to deliver the Perry Township paper, then taking over delivering it himself for fifteen years, or working at the school. Hank received acknowledgment in the newspaper and an award for never missing delivering the Perry Township paper to his route during those fifteen years. As a young man Hank broke his ankle, but his nephew Paul went around telling everyone Hank had a "broken uncle" instead. Hank used to get such a chuckle out of it.
Hank met the love of his life, Brenda, in 1981, at a church ice skating event. During their dating days when the song "Scripture Medley" (based on Psalm 118:24) came on the radio, they would call each other. Excited to start their new life together, the two were married on June 11, 1983, at First Baptist Church of Beech Grove. On their honeymoon at Indiana Beach, while swimming in a chlorinated pool, Brenda's bathing suit came down.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Beech Grove, well known for standing at the doors to greet people as they arrived. After retiring from Beech Grove School Corporation, Hank volunteered for twelve years at Beech Grove Meadows Nursing Home.
Everyone who knew Hank knew how much he loved fishing, especially with his grandpa. We were at his uncle's house in Greencastle, and they were fishing. The fish was playing hard to get so Hank decided to go in the water after it, clothes and all. He was very successful in picking it up, so the trip home was a little smelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wayne and LaVina Mae Smith Huxley, grandparents Henry and Cleo Huxley, Claude and Opal Smith, aunts, uncles.
Hank is survived by loving wife Brenda Sue Huxley, brother Robert D. Huxley (Pat), nephews Paul D. Huxley (Michelle), David Jason Huxley (Stephanie), great nephew Joshua Huxley, great niece Avah Huxley, great nephew Alex Huxley.
Viewing is at Little and Sons 1301 Main St., Beech Grove, IN 46107, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral is at Little and Sons on January 12th, 2026, at 11:00 am, with burial at Forest Lawn cemetery 1709 SR-135, Greenwood, IN, to follow.
