Everyone called her by her middle name - Joan; Darla J. Hale (Strader) left this earthly life September 7, 2026. Born in Bruceville, Indiana October 28, 1938 to Thomas H.O. Strader and Marian Ruth (Kyle) Strader she was one of 14 children. Most of her siblings have preceded her in death as did her husband Thomas E. Hale.
Once her children were in school she became an OB-GYN nurse, training at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana. These innovative classes and graduates were the first of their kind in the state, dedicated to safe deliveries and wellness care for new mothers and their babies.
She is survived by her children "Ed" Thomas E. Hale II (Nancy), Debra Summitt (John), Stacey Dunbar (John) several grandchildren, Many great grandchildren and 4 and a 1/2 great-great grandchildren.
Calling will take place at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main Street, Beech Grove, Indiana from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of her life at 3:00 p.m.
