Ione H. Shimer

94, of Indianapolis, passed away March 1, 2014. Ione graduated from Arsenal Tech High School and became the Fashion Bureau Manager at L.S. Ayres for many years. Ione loved to make Christmas balls out of glass beads & antique jewelry. She was also a marvelous cook and always enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings. She loved to make Christmas cookies with the women of the family! Ione was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Alfred E. Smith, 2nd husband Theodore “Ted” Shimer, sister, Kathryn Lentz and brother, Jesse “Bud” Heath. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Casteel; grandchildren, Kathy (Steve Pockrass) Osborn, Kristy Osborn, Shirley Smith, Greg (Sue) Shimer and Suzanne Townsend; great grandchildren; Harper Osborn-Pockrass and Allyson Pockrass. Visitation will be held at Little and Sons Beech Grove chapel on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with an hour of visitation from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to First Chirstian Church in Beech Grove.
