

He was born in Indianapolis to the late Maurice and Elizabeth Bailey.
Joseph Bailey worked many years for Standard Oil Company driving a gasoline tanker, then later operated mixers for both Conco and American Concrete before he retired in 2000. Beginning in the 1950's, Joe was a pit stop reporter for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Press Bureau and was an honored Speedway Old Timer. In his personal life, "Papa" was known for his unconditional love, his infectious laugh, and the many interesting stories from his life that he would entertain others with for hours. No one was ever a stranger to him, just someone he hadn't met yet. He will be missed by the many whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his children Martha Bailey, Joseph Neal (Judy) Bailey: step Children Debbie (Kenny) King, Sandra Van Vlymen, Barbara Payne, and Ray (Gina) Nesbit; grandchildren Sommer Van Vlymen, Roxanne Zoderer, Bailey Van Vlymen, Vanessa Van Vlymen, Tyler King, Ethan Payne, Molly Payne, and Oscar Nesbit; sisters Mary Dillard, Dorothy Washam, Margaret Beach, Jane McArdle, Esther Capps, and Virginia Lee Congdon; and brothers Richard Bailey and James Robert Bailey.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Bailey; daughter Dana Fader; grandson Phillip Trenton Bailey. and brother Paul Bailey.
Visitation will be held Monday Jan. 30th from 2:00-6:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home Beech Grove Chapel, followed by a Service at 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
